Dissolution of the Monastery

Dissolution of the Monastery

The monastery also played an important role during the turbulent events of the 15th century. In 1421 it was occupied by Hussite forces, but thanks to a peaceful reception it was not destroyed, making it one of the few monastic buildings to survive the Hussite wars.

Several years later, however, its fate was sealed. In 1435, the abbess carried out her final administrative acts, and the monastery estate passed into the hands of the former Hussite commander Jakoubek of Vřesovice. This marked the end of the monastery era and the beginning of its transformation into a noble residence. On its foundations, the Teplice Chateau gradually emerged, becoming a new symbol of power and importance. The story of the monastery thus forms one of the cornerstones of Teplice’s history.
