On the side of the spa building called Pravřídlo (Antient Spring), just a short distance from the Spa Alley, there is a niche with a ceramic relief of a pig’s head, from which the oldest spring in Teplice, also called Pravřídlo, flows. The carved pig’s head is connected to the legend of the discovery of healing springs in the Teplice region.
The building from which the thermal spring emerges through the relief is also worth mentioning. Its history goes back to the 16th century, when it was built to protect the springs. Over the centuries, it underwent many changes, and in the 18th century it was even demolished and rebuilt as part of spa renovations. Its Empire-style appearance was later complemented by the addition of the first-floor.
Although spa tradition might suggest it, in Teplice the healing springs are not used for direct consumption, only for bathing. In addition to relaxing the body, the baths help treat musculoskeletal and cardiovascular system.
