In the quiet Lípová Street in Teplice, which follows the historical route connecting Teplice with the Šanov town quarter, you will find one of the city’s most elegant Neo-Renaissance villas — todays home of the Regional Library of Teplice. The building was constructed in 1875–1876 as a boys’ grammar school and was later converted into an impressive family residence. It was during this period that it received its rich architectural decoration, thanks to which it is now a protected cultural monument.
Since 1946, the villa has served the public as a library. In the post-war years, departments for children and adults, a music department, a reading room, and a study room were established here, gradually turning it into an important cultural and educational centre of the city. In 2003, it officially received the name Regional Library of Teplice and, as a municipal contributory organisation, it continues its tradition as a place of meeting, learning, and inspiration.
