Fryderyk Chopin

Fryderyk Chopin (1810–1849)
Czech Premiere and a Final Farewell

Before this Polish composer became a darling of Parisian salons and a global icon of Romanticism, Teplice applauded him. Prince Clary-Aldringen recognized his talent early and invited the young Chopin, then a recent graduate, to his castle. On August 24, 1829, a historic concert took place—most likely Chopin’s very first performance on Czech soil.

He returned to the city once more, six years later in 1835. This time not as an unknown youth, but as a celebrated star. The journey was motivated not only by treatment, but above all by a desire to see his parents. Unbeknownst to all, it was a farewell forever—the last time Fryderyk Chopin would see them.

Today, visitors to Teplice Castle can see the piano on which Chopin played during his first stay. The instrument remains on display as a rare reminder of the visit of one of the greatest musical geniuses of all time.
