The Baroque church located on Castle Square in Teplice is dedicated to the patron saint of healing springs, St. John the Baptist. The deanery church was built in 1594 on the foundations of an older structure and was rebuilt into its present Baroque form in 1703.
The main architectural feature is the tower, which was reduced in height in the mid-17th century and is today open to the public as a popular viewpoint overlooking the town centre of Teplice. Inside the church, visitors can see an exhibition dedicated to significant buildings, as well as a room where, according to legend, a watchman slept through a great fire that devastated the town.
A cemetery once surrounded the church but was later closed; several tombstones have been preserved. Beneath the church, in the northern side aisle, lies the burial vault of the Clary-Aldringen family.
